It’s just a job

28 Jun

So here it is.  The blog I’ve been wanting to write but wasn’t sure how to put it all into words.  To sum it up – due to restructuring at Andrew’s company, they eliminated his position.

Andrew. The West Point Graduate.  Andrew. The Veteran.  Andrew. The Overall Great Guy.

We know it wasn’t personal. It all came down to numbers but still, it’s all just so crazy.

We are now fortunately (if you could call it that!) living on a few weeks of severance while we both aggressively apply for job after job.  Andrew has several head hunters helping him and some of my good friends in television news are doing what they can to help build up my confidence and get me back in a newsroom.

Despite it all, Andrew and I really aren’t that worried.  We know that somehow we will be fine. We have our family.  We have our health.  We have some Spam in the pantry.  (I originally bought that as a joke a few weeks ago, now it seems it might come in handy!)

As cliche’ as it may sound, it could always be worse and we do believe that this could lead to bigger and better things for us.  Fingers crossed.

Good luck to you both! Anybody would be fortunate to have either of you as employees, and hopefully someone realizes that soon.

I can't believe someone would let Andrew go. I feel like starting a company just so I could hire him, I know it would be successful..

You will cry, you will laugh, You just made me do both in a matter of seconds. All of you are on to bigger and better things. OH ! Spam is great fried with mustard, but you won't need to open that can.Write 6/24/08 on that can and I promise it will never be opened. Love you all,Momma

Nik…*huge hug* I know some of what you are feeling as we just got past that horrible place. Keep Andrew's confidence high because this is the fault of a crappy economy and not his skills and abilities. I can forward your resume to a friend at CNN if you like and she might be able to get you some freelance work.
I remember feeling so depressed 7 weeks ago and then a week later things were back on track. You'll be there soon.

Sheesh what kinda world is this that has such sheer stupidity in it?I hate to be overly posimistic but I can't imagine Andrew being unemployed for long. He is just about the most amazing individual I know (next to his wife of course).

I'm thinking about you guys and praying for you. I'm also very proud of you and inspired by the way you both are handling a tough situation. You deserve all good things!

Oh Nikki….of course Ike and I have been thinking of you and Andrew ever since your first phone call to Ike. I wanted to post some sort of "I'm thinking of you" message, but I didn't want to be the one who let the cat out of the bag on your blog. I'm just so, so sorry. It really sucks. But, you can bet your buns that Ike will do whatever he can and give you one hell of a reference when someone calls him!Best of luck to Andrew (and you) with job searching. And I'm with honey….date the Spam…you won't need it!!! (((((((big, huge hugs)))))))Roxann
