Wanted: Friend to Color My Hair

22 Jan

Or just to come over, sit at the table with me, share a bottle of wine or some coffee and talk about things, face-to-face.

Growing up, I remember my mom always had her girl friends over our house. They would sit and talk for hours, play games or bake something. Just relaxing and conversatin’ about mom, wife or girl stuff, without worrying about sharing too much information or it being exposed for other eyes to see. There was no facebook. There were card parties, women’s clubs and just come over and hang out friends.

As my kids grow up, I know I’m going to need an in-person friend like that. Someone who will listen and give advice, in confidence. I’ve already ran into a few personal girl things with Nia that I’m holding in and it’s a weird feeling. After all, I share everything. I share things that make others uncomfortable. But they are things about me, not my little girl.

I know I can always call my family and close friends but sometimes chatting over hair color or chips and salsa just makes it all better. Plus, I really need my grays covered.

I so need my gray hairs covered! I’ll be right over!
I think it is so hard to find girlfriends now. You want their husbands to get along with your husband, their kids to get along with yours. I meet some people online (local mommy groups) but the ones I connect with there don’t always work out in person. Or they are 25 and stay-at-home moms and we don’t share life experiences. Working full-time also makes it hard to have the chance to meet more people. Now, with a baby on the way, I want to meet moms with little ones, but odds are, they don’t also have a nearly 5 year old as well. Ugh!

I agree about having everything/everyone mesh. That’s definitely another tricky thing…

Oh Nikki, this breaks my heart because I want this too, and not with just anybody, but with you. You are one of those rare finds – that friend I could tell anything too. Who can build me up when I need it or just be silly and goofy together. The kind who wouldn’t care if they walked in your house at 1pm and found that you were still in pajamas. The effortless kind -which is ironic because they are so worth the effort. Why can’t we be neighbors? Sigh.

Also, the kind who will forgive my typo. Meant “to,” not “too.” By the way, I’m totally about to color my hair, no lie. Come help?

Ha and I wish! Maybe we’ll have to plan our next visit around hair colorings.

You know I just got tears! I feel the same about you. I know we would be this way if we lived closer. (Hair, coffee, drinky, games, gossip.) Miss you.

So my parents didn’t really have any close friends for a lot of years until the summer that my brother’s All Star team traveled all over the NW winning games. Ever since, they have an annual summer picnic with the families and have some really close friends from that group that they see frequently.
